  1. Don't.  It will always be a plus in life, especially in America.

Words like;  Sophisticated, intellegent, honorable, decent, trustworthy describe the perceptions American's have towards English Accents.

If I'm accepting resumes from 10 people for a Hotel reception job, I'll hire the 1 guy/girl with a UK accent.

Time will diminish the rough edges of your accent, but never be ashamed of it, and as another poster said, the guys and girls find it s**y.

  2. Hey, people over here will love you if you have a London accent!! Don't be fake and put on an American one, we can tell and youll just look dumb. You may gradually pick one up but seriously, guys and girls here seem to love london accents....

  3. Change your wardrobe, change your appearance, but don't

change your accent. Well, unless it's Cockney. LOL. But

seriously, an English accent does go over here rather well, I'd

say. It might even get you through some doors, you would

ordinarily be barred from, you see. People do seem enchanted with the sound of a foreign accent. Even if it is

from the UK :), and not that foreign. LOL. Just be yourself,

and try to blend in as much as possible, and you'll do fine.

Oh, and don't wear a kilt to school here, now that would

    definately get you noticed! LOL.

  4. i agree with the first guy. don't worry too much about it. accents are awesome unless we can't understand you!
