Question:

Getting rid of a new car warranty

by  |  earlier

So I bought my first new car and got a little too excited about "protecting my investment" and bought the optional 6 year/100,000 mile warranty (2008 Honda Civic). Now I want to get rid of it! Looking through it, it seems absolutely worthless (the things that go wrong are not covered--it's more of the computer components etc.) Is this something that's going to be a real pain to get rid of---especially if the car is financed. I've heard somewhere the finance manager makes his commission off of this...no wonder he hasn't returned my calls.

Thank you so much for your help!!!!

  1. You can cancel it in a certain number of days and get it all back . I called within the 30 days from signing . If later than that they would have just prorated it and cost me just a little more . They can not change the payments for me though . I just will pay the car off sooner .

  2. I don't know for sure what can be done. If the extra warranty has already been written into the loan, then perhaps you have to just keep it. Oh yes, the finance mgr made a serious commission on that warranty. That is why it has been said many times before to not get them. They are way overpriced & usually not worth the paper they are written on. The Honda Civic is in own right a good car to begin with. If something were to happen with it mechanically, it would happen fairly soon & would have been covered under the standard warranty. Call the finance company directly and do it quickly. Tell them you want to drop that warranty in the loan & wish to rewrite the loan. I don't know how far your gonna get with that, but you have to try. G'luck.

  3. I have bought many cars, in my time, and have learned.

Once you drive the car off the lot. The deal is done.

Then, it is concidered a "used car." Go to his office,

and talk to him, face to face, respectably,of course,

to cancel with out penalty. I don't see how you get

your money back, once the financing, is now with

your lender. If you had paid for the extended

warranty out of your own pocket.that would be a

    different story. Good luck. <}:-})

  4. What do you mean by get rid of it?

Just don't use it.  It is paid for (part of the car price now).

    good Luck...
