My 3 month old has really bad cradle cap on the top of her head. It's so thick I can really feel the bumps when I run my hand over her head. What can I do to get rid of this?

  1. dip a face towel into some quite warm water to which a few drops of olive oil or baby oil has been added. Squeeze out and place gently but firmly on top of the cradle cap for a couple of minutes. repeat several times. Don't be scared, it will also help if she has the sniffles. leave on for a few minutes and see if that loosens it up a little. I used to do this just before my baby's bath, then just continue with the baby shampoo as normal.

  2. what ever you do if you get rid of it it will probably come back.. thedoctor told me that it will be there until the stage is over.  I would get rid of my daughters and it would just come right back

  3. My Dr. said to put baby oil on her head about 15 minutes before her bath and then to scape it off with the little sponge thing I got from the hospital because the opposite side of the sponge was a baby comb type thing and that seemed to work well. Be sure not to wash her hair too often because it will really dry it out.

  4. i put baby oil through my sons hair while he is in the bath and let it soak in while he plays and through cleaning his body. i then shampoo his hair to get the oil out and clean the flakes off. this worked to get rid of it and now i do it weekly to prevent it aswell.

    good luck.

  5. take her to her pediatrician and he/she should be able to better diagnose and treat the condition. she should have gotten over cradle cap within the first month.

  6. olive oil works wonders

  7. Our 8 week old just got over her seborreah.  I took her to the peditrician, and she suggested washing her with just water (not using perfumed baby wash) and applying aquafor.  It cleared up beautifully and quickly.

I know it looks gross and painful, but it doesn't bother them at all.  However, if your baby looks to be itchy or uncomfortable, you can put a little bit of .5% hydrocortizone on the affected area.  Good luck!

  8. baby oil or there is a new thing called cradle cap! itsin the baby section at the store

  9. my son hasn't developed bad cradle cap but i wash his hair with bicarb soda when i give him a bath (every other day) and this gets rid of all the dead skin

  10. I used Joico Daily Care shampoo for my sons head.  It's gentle enough for baby but watch that it doesn't get in the eyes.  It works wonders.  I only used/use it when he gets flaky. Check with one of your local salons for it.  Use it everyday for a few days to a week and you'll notice a big improvement.  Then go to every other day until it's gone.  Then only use it when you notice flakes.  It didn't dry up his skin or anything.  It just took the problem away.  I found the baby oil did not work.  Cradle cap is a build up of oils and skin on baby's scalp and I found the extra oil didn't do anything to remove it.  Also make sure you are using a soft baby brush on your baby's head every day.  Even if there is no hair.  It will also help remove some of the flakes.

    good luck:)

  11. don't bother spending a load of money on special cradle cap stuff and no they don't usually get it in the first month. My daughter is four months and I noticed she  had a little so I just pulled out the olive oil, baby oil if you have it and got her hair wet before her bath, and put some oil on her head and rubbed it in a bit and let it set while she was taking her bath, it was about 10-15 minutes. I take a bath with her. I then washed it out and massage her scalp with the baby shampoo and it was gone. Sometimes it will take two or three treatments for it to go away. And yes it can happen even if a baby bathes regularly. But it is easy to fix and costs nothing.

  12. my daughter has the same, 15-20 before bath time i put baby oil on her head(as thick as you can) about 5 min before her bath i brush it gently with a baby brush(or you can use baby tooth brush as well) when shampooing the hair leave the shampoo on for as long as possible.. (put shampoo in hair then wash rest of body then wash shampoo out last) ive been doing this process for about a week and its pretty much gone.. Hope that helps!

  13. I got a product from walmart by Gentle Naturals. Worked amazingly.

You just rub it on, brush a comb through it and shampoo like normal.

  14. wash the babies hair regularly.

I put lotion or baby oil where the issue is about an hour before bath time, run a baby comb gently through the hair and then wash. It helps but don't pick at it.

  15. let baby oil soak on her head....then comb with a soft toothbrush, wash hair and repeat next time...while hair is wet comb any loose pieces out, do not pull them off....per my ped

  16. Wash her head don't use oil on her head I talked to a nurse about it when my son started getting it she said no baby oil so I just washed hes head it never got bad It cleared up. If it does not work by getting better tell her doctor on your next visit. Ask as many questions as you have about anything to do with your baby. Cradle cap is common

  17. Our baby didn't have it real bad but we used a tiny bit of olive oil and let it sit on his head for about 1o minutes then wiped it with a damp washcloth and it came right off...

  18. this is what i do. put baby oil in her hair brush it around with her baby brush in circular motion. leave the oil in there for 3-4 hours then give her a bath when shampooing it brush her hair in a circular motion again. it might take 3 days of doing that to get it all out, depending on how thick. but that works for me. and just leaving head with baby oil for a long time.

  19. I bought a kit that helps with cradle cap.  Cradle cap is oil glands producing in excess.  If you use baby oil (which isn't recommended) then be sure to wash ALL of it off COMPLETELY.  To get rid of my daughters cradle cap, I washed her hair often, and used LOTS of baby shampoo.  I scrubbed it in with my finger nails really good.  Once I got the cradle cap kit, I used the scrubber mit to help scrub her scalp.

    EDIT:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cradle_cap

The cause of cradle cap is not clearly defined but it is not caused by an infection, allergy nor from poor hygiene. Possibly it has to do with overactive sebaceous glands in the skin of newborn babies, due to the mother's hormones still in the baby's circulation. The glands release a greasy substance that makes old skin cells attach to the scalp as they try to dry and fall off.

Now tell me, why WHY would someone soak a greasy skin condition in oil?!?!?!
