Getting rid of fridge that has had rotten food in it for almost a year...?

My mother has a fridge that has been broken down for about 10 months. There is a large amount of food still in this fridge. I need to know how to get rid of this. Every time I tell her to do it she says she will and then never does. I am very concerned about the safety of my family because i know that many kinds of mold are very dangerous. If anyone knows for a fact how to take care of this please do tell. And please will no one leave degrading comments about this, it is quite embarrassing as it is.

You will never be able to get the smell out of the fridge so just tape/tie the doors shut and take it to the dump.  I wouldn't even chance opening it!

Sounds like the best thing you can do is

1.)Go to the store and buy a resperator that is labeled to filter out mold and other fine particles.  (you can find these in any hardware store.  i.e. Lowe's)

2.)Get some heavy duty cleaner (bleach), a big trash bag, some gloves and a scrubbing sponge.

3.)Take out all the solid waste and put them in said trash bag.

4.) Start scrubbing and cleaning.

In all honesty it sounds like you need to take action into your own hands.  If the fridge is inside or close to the home, it could also cause pest problems.
