Question:

Getting rid of ground loop?

I have a bad ground loop in my sound system now that I added Sirius radio, and it's getting out of hand. I installed an in-line noise filter that filters the 12v before going to the 12v adapter, and it works for the most part, but the static is still there. However, when I turn my neons on, I get terrible alternator whine that increases and decreases with the RPM. Does anyone know of any way to get rid of the noise? I bought a GLI but it didn't arrive yet and it might distort the sound. Also, the grounds to my head unit, 12v power, inline filter, and amp are all in the same spot. Only my subs are amped, not my speakers.

Thanks!

  1. Soon as the ground loop isolator arrives hook it up and see if it fixes it b/c that sounds like that's the problem.

  2. most of the times this happens when your rca audio signal are to close to any powered wire such as your power wire and in your case i guess the wired neons are closer than 18 inches to your rca audio wire...its a very easy way to prevent that annoying whine of your alternator before you have to spend money on noise suppressors...check out the site below it gives you good tips on noise suppression

  3. You have a ground in the system that needs to be in the the system not the cars ground> Keep looking its there>
