Question:

Getting rid of ground moles?

I've heard that if one is lucky enough to trap and kill a ground mole, if you leave the dead mole in the tunnel, the rest of the live moles will leave your yard. Does anyone know if this is fact. Also will live moles eat a dead mole?

  1. I've heard that too, but I've never seen proof.  Actually, one surefire way of getting rid of them is to get castor beans, AKA mole beans, and drop them in the holes.  They are poisonous to moles.  You can get them at some garden centers, in some seed catalogs, and I'm sure you can find them on the net.  But be careful--my husband works for the Indiana State Department of Health, and when the Department of Homeland Security was trying to find some for some reason, he offered them some, and they were very nosy about why he'd have them--apparently, they have some other use.

  2. A dead mole will not get rid of other moles.

Moles eat insects and roots. Get rid of the insects and you probably won't have a problem with them.

I've heard you can put Juicy Fruit chewing gum in the hole to kill them. (It was on the local news)

    Apparently it clogs their intestines.

The best way I've found is to use poison peanuts.

I haven't tried the gum yet.
