Question:

Getting stains out of white clothes?

I have white underwear with stains on it, and I have not been able to get the stains out with regular laundry soap and hot water.

The tag says "only use non-chlroine bleach when needed" - so I assume that I cannot use Clorox. Is this true? Or can I forget about what the tag says and use Clorox anyway? What is the risk of using Clorox if the underwear is solid white color?

Finally, if it's ok to use Clorox, should I leave the clothes soaking in the water with Clorox before I wash - or should I just wash?

  1. Go to e-how.com.

They have a lot of tips!

  2. In the future, don't use hot water. Hot water serves to set stains.

Go to the store and get some "Oxy-Clean" or "Oxy-Miracle." You can purchase it in a powder and mix it up yourself or add it to the washer when it is filling.

Make up a bucket of the solution and let your garments soak for at least 24 hours. Use cool water, dissolve the pattern as much as you can then add the clothing.

After the soak, run them through the wash. Add some of the powder to the wash as well.

You can also by the product in a spray. I  use the spray to spot-treat before the laundry. You can't really use the spray and let it sit because it dries out fairly quickly. So use the powder for the soak. The stuff is amazing.

Clorox will damage the fibers of your garments and hasten their deterioration. Clorox may also yellow the garments, even though they are white. That's why the label warns against it.

It is possible since you washed the items in hot water that the stain is set and while it might fade somewhat, it may not come out all the way.

  3. Personally I like the Clorox gel pen. You can find it near the Clorox liquid bleach in the laundry aisle. Just wipe the gel on the stain throw it in the washer and the stain is gone. :)

  4. forget about all of that.....i have something that works all the time.....to get stains out of white clothes use aspirin.....just wash like normal but add some aspirin in the washer with the clothes.....works every time!!
