So my dad is going to help me get big into drifting, since it has been a dream of my for some time now. First step, I need a RWD car ya. I love Nissan very much so im going to get one, its a matter of which one now. I was thinking a 300ZX but I never see them drifting, is it because they are to heavy? If any one could help me decide which Nissan to buy for drifting that would be great.

  1. 240SX.

With the 300ZX's, the huge rear tires and low center of gravity make it not as ideal of a drift car.  As the tires warm up on the Z's, they track too much and stick like glue.  If they had narrower tires they'd drift a lot better.

Also, the Z's are not the coldest running cars.  As you spend so much of your time sideways, you don't get much air into the engine bay, as air is moving past the front bumper instead of being forced into it.  So after laps of drifting, heat becomes an issue with the Z's.

Go with the 240SX ... they're fun cars to drift with.

  2. Well i drift. most people don't drift the 300zx because its heavy and they are really a pain to work on. the engine bay is so tight. I have a 240sx s14 1995 with a limited slip differential, shortshifter from b&m and coilovers from stance.

Most poeple with start witha  240 because they have a longer wheel base and its much eaiser to control a car with a longer wheel base. When the rear of a 240 kicks out the car really tells you alot. and its not as violent as if you were drifting a bmw or a s2000. but here are a few things to consider.

    1. your budget. 240sx, are easy cars to work on they have lots a space and they are 4 cylinders. the ka24de makes good torque which is needed for drifting and 240sx parts are easy to find at the junkyard when you crash your car beleive me crashing comes with learning. I totaled my bmw learning to drift.

    2. Make sure you get suspension and LSD for you car because these are two of the most important things for drifting

    3. the se 240sx's have a viscous LSD in them at thats good enough to start learning with.

    4. the aftermarket potential for this car is huge. its up there with the honda civic. so you will have lots of online support and alot of people have this car to drift with so you can learn alot of set stratagies and techniques with this specific car also.
