Getting to Longacre Theatre from Grand Central?

I will be coming into Grand central by way of Metro North this week because I am going to see a play at Longacre Theatre. It's on W 48th Street between Broadway and 8th Ave. I have general directions from the website, but can anyone from the area get me a little more details. What I have been told was from GC, travel west on 42nd for 5/6 blocks til I get to the theatre district, take the subway shuttle to Times Square and walk north to the street. But can anyone tell me what line etc and stuff to take? I am horrid with directions! lol

  1. From Grand Central take the subway - 42nd St Shuttle (S) to Times Square,  Transfer there to an uptown N, R or W train one stop to 49th St.  At 49th St use the exit at the rear of the platform and walk to 48th St and the theater.

Or you can exit to the street at 42nd St from the shuttle and walk up to 48th St.

  2. you might be better off just *walking* to the theater from GCT, because it will likely take the same amount of time to go through the processes of walking to, waiting for, and riding the subway anyway.

here's how you do it: just get out of GCT at the *northern* end, rather than having to walk south through the main building, via either the Northeast or Northwest Passages. these were constructed about 10 years ago for people who work north of GCT so they wouldn't have to walk all the way down and around.

the Northeast Passage exits at 48th Street and Park Avenue, while the Northwest exits at 47th Street and Madison. from there it's only 4 to 5 longish blocks and no more than 10 minutes right to the theater.
