Im 17, and i recently got 4 charges on me. Was taking the blame for my friend but thats not the point. The charges are, Lieing to a police officer, Driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident, and taking the car without parents permission(not my parents, my friends). I was wondering what the outcome of the court hearing would be from all these charges.

  1. it depends on what you have done now to improve your life since these offenses.

usually driving without a license is not punishable by jail time.

leaving the scene of an accident would depend on if you caused an injury or not, but usually not punishable by jail time

the taking the car without permission, sounds a bit more serious

lying to police, not so good either.

the question is, what have you done since you were charged with these crimes?  have you graduated from high school?  are you working? are you going to college?   all of these things will determine what the judge does with you.  there are sentencing guidelines for each of these crimes, and it's hard to say if you will get a long term probation of if you will have to do some time.   if you are working, you could get a small sentence with a work release program.

if you are not working, the judge has no reason not to teach you a valuable lesson and give you some time.

  2. You will likely have trouble getting your license in the future (or getting it renewed). You may have to pay damages for whatever you (or your friend) hurt in the accident. You might go to jail for a month to six months to scare you into not doing stupid **** with other people's cars.

  3. If you dont get a lawyer, your going to jail for a very very long time. Now you know not to take a blame for a friend and to stay out of trouble.

  4. You will face several large fines, some jail time or both. You will be given the option of serving the time to pay the fine and probation or 6 months in Prison with probation and a lofty fine. What you did was stupid and you knew the risks going into it. You will have to face the music and move on with your life. Hopefully you will grow up and be a successful and trusted civilian after this.

  5. you WILL get f*cked without a lawyer

Dude i'm not 'attacking' you! I'm saying that without a lawyer the court will do its best to give you the max sentence.

  6. I have no sympathy for you. When you are a juvenile and you are being tried as adult, its very serious. Your looking at about 1 year in prison. Personally, I hope you get more than that.

  7. If you live in Texas, you are no longer a juvenile at 17, you are an adult when comes to criminal charges.

Stop blaming everyone else, that is so juvenile. It has been tried before. Judges do not listen to that kind of nonsense. If you took the blame, then the blame is yours, period.

The most serious charge against you is leaving the accident. That is indeed a very serious charge. You will most likely get probation. Grand theft auto. If it is your first offense, probation. Driving without a license, probation. Lying to the police, probation.

You may also be responsible for any damages resulting from the accident. As a condition of your probation, you will have to pay restitution to cover the damages in addition to your probation fees.

Better get a job and stay out of trouble from now on.
