Ghana v Japan – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cricket League Division Eight – Semi-Final – Match Update
An intense bowling attack led Ghana to secure a 62-run win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ghana-c2905 to the tournament
final, due to be played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Belgium-c2850 in the 3rd-place play-off on the same date.
Ghana won the toss and chose to bat first in what proved to be a low-scoring game. Ghana’s batsmen found themselves sorely troubled by the Japanese bowling attack, with Daniel Mee (6-0-21-3), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Takuro-Hagihara-c92654 (8.1-1-34-2)
playing prominent roles.
Opener Francis Bakiweyem was only able to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Julius-Horlali-Mensah-c69655 (25) joined forces for a 43-run partnership for the second wicket. Both, however, were sent
back to the pavilion by Miyaji by the 15th over.
The next duo up to bat – Samson Awiah (28) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Obed-Harvey-c80131 (10) – however, did not allow Ghana’s momentum to flag, and contributed a combined total of 42 runs to the team’s score, which swelled to 110 by the 28th over.
However, from there onwards, the batsmen were not able to continue in a similar vein. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kofi-Stephen-Bagabena-c71620 (0), skipper Peter
Ananya (6), and Ankrah Kind-David (8) all chipped in with meagre contributions, and by the 49th over, Ghana found themselves all out at 198.
Japan’s batting performance was similarly lacklustre, and a fierce bowling attack led by Player of the Match Aboagye (9.2-0-33-2), Harvey (8-1-18-2), and Bagabena (9-0-25-2) succeeded in limited Japan, all out, to 136.
The Japanese batsmen were unable to contribute any substantial individual scores, with skipper and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tatsuro-Chino-c92884 top-scoring for the team with 24.
Mee, Hanif http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 Muhammad, and Makoto Taniyama were all ineffective, and contributed only 8 runs each, while the team managed only two substantial partnerships – a 34-run second-wicket stand between Miyaji (15) and Alexander Patmore (10), and a 33-run partnership
for the 5th wicket between Chino and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Masaomi-Kobayashi-c74997 (10).
However, the combined efforts of a mere handful of batsmen were not enough to save the team, and Japan were eventually cut off at a final total of 136 by the 47th over.
