At the end of their 20 overs, Ghana posted a defending total of 140 for the loss of seven wickets against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Africa Region Division One Twenty20, played at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, Kampala, on July 9, 2011.
On a good looking day it was Ghana’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-K-Ananya-c81784, who won the toss and elected to bat first.
The start to their innings was smashing with both the openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-K-Vifah-c65836 and Francis Bakiweyem, attacking from the word go.
However, they could not sustain this for too long as Vifah was cleaned up by first change bowler, Harrison Angila. He had made 16 with the help of 3 boundaries.
From there on, the innings could not carry on with the same momentum with bowlers gradually pinning the scoring rate down.
With some good fielding from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Julius-Horlali-Mensah-c69655, who went for 12. Another run-out followed and this time it was the dangerous looking Bakiweyem who went for 34.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moses-Kofi-Anafie-c77757 run-out, Ghana was struggling at 89 for 5.
However, a good partnership between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ghana-c2905’s innings at the right moment.
Both Ghanaians’ played good cameos with Bagabena making 21 from 18 deliveries which included a four and a six, while Ateak remained unbeaten on 36 off just 24 deliveries, which included 3 boundaries and 2 maximum s.
At the end of their 20 overs, Ghana had moved on to 140 for the loss of seven wickets. The innings included 11 extras from the Kenyan bowlers.
The bowling from the Kenyan side was impressive. Apart from opening bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Alroy-Martin-c50714 Ndandason, who got a battering from opening Ghanaian batsmen, others bowled reasonably well.
However, the pick of the bowlers was Joseph Ochieng, who grabbed two wickets for 21 in the three overs he bowled.
Kenyan slow left-arm bowler, Raj Savala, was the most economical of the bowlers, going at less than 4.25 runs per over. Also, there were wickets each for Duncan Allan and Harrison Angila.
The Kenyan batsmen will be looking towards their openers to provide them with an appropriate start in order to chase the 140 posted by Ghana.
It is Ghana’s second match of the day, while earlier they lost to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Uganda-c3031 by 4 wickets.
