After winning toss, the Ghana skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-K-Ananya-c81784, made a brave decision to bat first since there was some moisture beneath the surface of the wicket.
As expected, the Uganda bowlers started off the proceedings with a bang, picking up three top wickets at a paltry at score of just six.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charles-Waiswa-c50401 dislodged him with a beautiful swinging delivery.
The second opener, Francis Bakiweyem, also failed to adjust his game according to pace of the wicket and his struggling innings eventually came to end after a 14-ball duck. While Brian Masaba knocked Bakiweyem’s stumps out of the ground with a classy delivery,
the one-down slot batsman, Samson Awiah, ran himself out on the very next ball of the fifth over.
Three wickets down, the tourists were in deep trouble as the Uganda bowlers were making the new ball talk with swing and speed. However, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Obed-Harvey-c80131 racked up a crucial 72-run stand
for the fourth wicket.
The pair ran well between the wickets, working the gaps well, eventually steering the side to a decent position. The two batsmen punished every loose delivery and laid a strong foundation for a reasonable total, before a direct-hit by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ronald-Ssemanda-c86788 showed
Mensah the way back to the dressing room. The 29-year-old batman got run-out after chipping in an important knock of 35 runs.
A couple of overs later, Harvey also lost his concentration, giving away his wicket to Masaba after playing a beautiful innings of 36 runs including three boundaries and a six. In the death overs, Moses Anafie’s quick innings of 15 from just nine balls guided
the visiting side to 101 for the loss of eight wickets in the set 20 overs.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Uganda-c3031 bowling unit performed outstandingly, using the condition soberly in his favour. Masaba grabbed three wickets for 18 while Waiswa returned with impressive bowling figures of 2/12. The home side also showed a lot of character in the field, hitting
the wickets directly when needed.
To start the tournament on a winning note, Uganda now needs to score 102 runs at a scoring rate of a little over five-run per over.
