Ghandi quote question?

Ghandi is often credited with saying "You must be the change you wish to see in the world", but i cant find an original citation. My professor wants me to...can anyone help?

Politely suggest that your professor consult "The Quote Verifier," by Ralph Keyes (See source below.).  The following paragraph appears on p. 75:

" 'BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD'  is a quotation that often appears over Gandhi's name.  Despite diligent searching, no one has ever found this saying in his published works.  It is included on 'The Official Mahatma Gandhi eArchive and Reference Library,' but without a source....This website's version is 'You must be the change you wish to see in the world.' Gandhi's descendants say he made the observation in person."
