Ghizao breaks free from the losing monotony in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Graduation Chase
The favourite entry for the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Graduation Chase, Ghizao, made the most of the opportunity when the fiercest rival, Kumbeshwar, fell, before which he was well in lead with jockey, Robert Thornton. Whatever became the reason for
the success, it for sure revived the form of the German bay gelding as the chaser managed erasing the disappointments of the previous term.
The Paul Nicholls trained won just as the champions and favourites win, by the highly incredible margin of thirty-three lengths. Initially, the chances of anyone winning the race were overshadowed by, h**l’s Bay, who was really strong when turning into the
straight. A mistake got him out of the way, and Ghizao got another opening to cash through.
The Keiran Burke trained finished as the runner-up under, Nick Scholfield.
The last two winners who landed this race, Riverside Theatre and Somersby, were later able to race at the highest and most challenging levels. The best, when it comes to the jump racing trainers, Paul Nicholls, hopes that his trainee will bring back for
him more reasons for celebration.
Tiger Hill’s bay gelding was in the leading cluster which soon diminished, making the rest of the trip easy and smooth for the Baron G Von Ullmann bred.
Nicholls' assistant Dan Skelton said: "He had a tough time last year, just as a horse really, as he had complications when we re-cauterised his pallet. It was nice to see him do that although what he's achieved I don't know.
"He's in the Paddy Power, but we'll see. Two and a half miles is his trip, it just gives him a bit of extra time to fill up and takes the pressure off his jumping."
Last year, this time around, the German bay gelding out of, Glorosia, was the prime hope for the trainer in the Grade 2 Betfred Haldon Gold Cup Chase on 1st November, 2011 at Exeter over two miles and 1 ½ furlongs.
He ended fourth in the field of seven, while the race was won by, Medermit. He has lost race after race from thereon.
The winner is one of the eight entries of the trainer in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham.
