Ghost Protocol likely to thrive in Goldsmiths Handicap
Learning lessons from his pathetic Royal Ascot stint, the David Simcock-trained bay gelding, Ghost Protocol, is all ready to make a big impact in the Goldsmiths Handicap that will be held at Newmarket racecourse on Thursday, July 12. The Class 2 contest
over 1 mile and 2 furlongs is set to start at 2:25 (GMT).
In two of his total six races, the three-year-old novice horse has run on good to soft tracks. This is likely to be a big advantage for him. For the prize money £31,125, the young and energetic runner will have to fight against 13 strong rivals today.
Ghost Protocol could not be able to do well in his last start at Ascot, finishing 17th against 17 contestants. That was the King George V Stakes (Handicap), held on June 21.
Prior to this, the A & A-owned horse had gained a third position in the 32red Casino Handicap over 1 mile and 2 furlongs at Goodwood on May 26.
The brilliant son of Cockney Rebel out of Stroke Of Six started his career with a runner-up position at Doncaster on July 30, 2011. He managed to break his maiden in the very next race at Epsom---that was Carling British Stallion Studs EBF Median Auction
Maiden Stakes, took place on August 18.
In today’s event, Ghost Protocol will have to fight with his back to wall as two of his competitors like Fennell Bay and Hajras look to be strong enough.
Fennell Bay gained immense confidence by winning the King George V Stakes (Handicap) during the gorgeous Royal Ascot festival of the last month. That was indeed a mega achievement.
The Mark Johnston-trained bay colt also won Betfred The Bonus King Handicap over 1 mile at Sandown during the same month. These two back-to-back triumphs have boosted up the veteran colt’s morale to a great extent. Now, he is looking to complete his hat-trick.
On the other hand, Hajras marvellously debuted with an epic victory on March 17, 2012. The Mark Johnston-trained bay colt went on to earn another success in the very next outing. On the good to soft course of Newbury, the rookie runner finished as a runner-up
in his last outing.
Thus, there will be witnessed a rip-roaring clash in the race. Good luck to all the contestants.
