Question:

Ghost hunters international -- why do they ask the majority of their questions (posed to ghosts) in English?

I was watching some episodes of GHI that I recorded, and I noticed they pretty much always ask questions in English -- do they think that all ghosts across the globe speak English?

A few times Barry seems to ask one thing in the local language, but it doesn't seem as though that is a regular thing.

If they do think they all speak English, then why would Barry have made a couple of attempts in another language

If they don't speak the languages -- is there really a chance they will make contact with anything?

  1. While I'm suspicious of that show too I must say that speaking in any language is supposedly not necessary.  My biggest problem with all these shows is the assumption that you can 'talk' to spirits. If it was that easy then people wouldn't need psychics or mediums to get rid of ghosts. They could just ask them to leave.  What a spirit is supposed to understand is intention.  Maybe that is why most of these shows turn out inconclusive because the ghosts understand their intentions.

  2. Some think that once someone dies, they automatically have the knowledge of the universe, which would include languages; others don't agree with that.

If someone dies, and doesn't even know they are dead, I would think they would still only know his/her own language.

I don't like GHI.  It seems so contrived.

  3. well berry's the only member that can speak other languages.

  4. Because American's think everyone (and thing) should speak their language. Lol.

But really, they should use some key phrases in their language. If a ghost is an intelligent entity, there's a really good chance he's saying "WTF are those Americans talking about"

  5. GHI is complete sh*t. They have no affiliation with TAPS. The only good investigator on GHI is Dustin.

I do not watch the show but assume since all but one of the investigators are American, they will speak English. The other being from the UK, well he speaks English as well.

EDIT: I saw a couple of episodes when the show first started last year (AWEFUL), well an EVP came back in a different language.

  6. Ghosts want franchising contracts with the TV networks too!

It shows you how bogus that sort of program is.

  7. Good question!

The main reason they do this is because the majority of the TV viewers speak english. Therefore its easier (and cheaper) to film all in english, then it would be to do part in another language and then either use a translator, or dub the text under the screen.

It suggests to me that there is a profound lack of authenticity in this show and its about shock value and ratings - not real investigations.

    I hope that helps. :)

  8. You would think at least one or two locals would be with them to ask  questions for the EVP's.

I forget the location they were at, but in the chapel, there were 2 males voices and one female voice that responded in their native language, not in English.

And I've heard EVP's where the respondent spoke in German.

In most of Europe, English is taught as the second language. So like with all EVP's, it's hit and miss.
