  1. My husband tells me that in the Laguna Catemaco area, there is a longstanding tradition of witchcraft and shamanism which is really important to the locals.  That isn't exactly ghostly, but I found a site that tells more about the "brujos" (witches) of Catemaco and the slaughter of their people by the Spaniards.  So I'm guessing that a lot of ghostlore accompanies the other stuff!

In a nutshell, the history describes local healers who are revered for their special powers.  Here is an excerpt:

"Historically brujos, shamans, warlocks, or whatever you choose to call them, occupy a revered place in Mexican indigenous culture. The Aztecs classified almost 40 different types of healers.

On the spiritual side, after the Spanish conquest, Catholicism's attempt to slaughter indigenous culture was ingeniously transformed by native peoples into metamorphed saint worship and, especially in Veracruz, abetted by a large influx of African slaves and their jungle heritage.

Cuba´s santeria, Haiti´s voodoo, and Catemaco brujeria are closely related and promise their aficionados blissful enlightenment, and, to cover all bases, even throw in a little devil worship."

This information comes from a site I found called: http://www.catemaco.info/

  2. No matter wich mexican city you are, you can always try the historical district, Mexico has cities very more older than the USA, so almost buildings have a haunted ghost story.

  3. what part of Mexico are you going to?

  4. many people report feeling strange at the Teotihuacan pyramids near Mexico City. There are ghost stories related to that. Pretty much everwhere in Mexico has something haunted.

  5. Yeah! anywhere were NAFTA has taken land from people is now deserted and have become ghost towns.  All of the people had no other option but to emigrate to the US where they are now being terrorized and bullied... or should I say anywhere where white people have come to use, abuse and destroy Mexico is also haunted?
