Ghurair likely to thrive in Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes (Group 2)
By winning his only race at Newmarket, the John Gosden trained bay and brown colt, Ghurair, has gained a lot of confidence that will help him claim the ace title of the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes (Group 2) at Goodwood racecourse on Wednesday, August 1.
The Class 1 contest over 7 furlongs is scheduled to begin at 2:35 (GMT). On the good track, the two-year-old novice runner will compete against 9 worthy rivals.
Ghurair staged a stunning debut at Newmarket on July 13, 2012, finishing first marvellously in the 18-runner race of the Weatherbys E B F Maiden Stakes. Interesting to note is the fact that the young and momentous runner gained the favourite tag for his
very first outing and justified it well with the tremendous triumph.
In today’s marathon, Ghurair will again run under Paul Hanagan who superbly rode him to win convincingly in his first and last start.
Considering the way the skilled colt performed at Newmarket, it will be quite logical to claim that he can be able to thrive at Goodwood emphatically provided he manages to contain Tha ‘Ir who looks to be Ghurair’s only strong rival.
The Saeed Bin Suroor trained bay colt started his career at Ripon on May 20, 2012 and finished 4th in his maiden outing entitled as Mark Lister & Friends Supporting Wooden Spoon Maiden Stakes.
The brilliant son of New Approach out of Flashing Green stepped forward to grab a grand victory in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Maiden Stakes again at the same venue on June 6.
During the gorgeous Royal Ascot festival, the Godolphin owned star colt elegantly won Chesham Stakes (Listed Race) on June 23. Despite being a non-favourite runner, the colt delivered an outstanding and astonishing performance to finish first.
In today’s mega marathon, Ghurair and Tha ‘Ir are likely to fight neck-to-neck. Success is not going to be an easy task for any one. This battle of the mighty runners will make the event thrilling enough. A huge crowd of the sport followers will turn out
