Gia Dalesandro pockets Women’s 100m butterfly gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Iowa City
Gia R Dalesandro of Fox Valley Swim pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on third day of the USA Swimming Sectionals at the University of Iowa Aquatic Center in Iowa City on Saturday, July 21.
The 17-year-old Dalesandro qualified as the strong contender for silver medal into the playoff but with her unbelievable efforts, she dictated terms to her challengers and proved her audacity for gold medal.
Dalesandro stayed nearly half a second ahead of her following swimmer as she touched the wall for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 01.52 seconds.
Her title-claiming effort remained 0.59 seconds faster from Annalise M Colton of Minnesota Aquatics and Mary E Schneider of Academy Bullets, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck swim for second position.
Despite of their exhausting efforts, both players did not manage to surpass each other over the finishing end and made their way to the finishing blockade for silver medal by hitting the wall with identical efforts of 1 minute and 02.11 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Audrey B Kumm of Club Hawkeye-IA, who remained 0.67 seconds slower and hit the finishing wall for fourth position by producing a time of 1 minute and 02.78 seconds.
The 19-year-old Kumm was followed by Elizabeth Tuchscherer of Club Hawkeye-IA, who was only 0.21 seconds away from improving her position and ended fifth in the discipline by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 02.99 seconds.
Sixth position of the discipline was obtained by Breinne M Thorne of Aquajets Swim Team, who was 0.13 seconds apart and clocked a time of 1 minute and 03.12 seconds.
Thorne was trailed by Maria E Jardeleza of New Trier Swim Club, who was 0.63 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 03.75 seconds for seventh position.
Jardeleza was followed by Gabrielle T Sims of Express Swim Team, who concluded her swim in eighth best place by posting a time of 1 minute and 04.06 seconds.
In addition, Dalesandro was overjoyed with her scintillating form and stated that that she would like to represent her county at the Olympic Games.
