Giacomo Agostini also hints at Valentino Rossi-Jorge Lorenzo hostility – MotoGP news
MotoGP legend, Giacomo Agostini, anticipates renewal of animosity between Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo in the 2013 MotoGP season following their team up in Yamaha Factory Racing.
Despite several negations that came from Lorenzo over the past couple of weeks, famous MotoGP personalities have continually predicted a hostile 2013 season between Rossi and Lorenzo.
While talking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Agostini said that although Rossi and Lorenzo were more mature than the last time they were teammates from 2008 until 2010, but still it would be impossible for them to be friends for a whole season.
Quoting his own example in favour of the prediction he made, the 15-times world champion said, “When you have two roosters in the same hen house, one wants to be more of a rooster than the other one. I experienced that with Hailwood, Read and also with Bergamonti:
the thing you desire most is to beat whoever races with the same bike as yours, because that's where you see who is stronger.”
Masao Furusawa, god father of Yamaha M1, also warned about a week ago saying that Rossi-Lorenzo relation could become unmanageable for Yamaha Factory team. Referring to the wall that was erected in the Yamaha garage in 2010, Furusawa expected a similar wall
to be erected in the upcoming season.
Lorenzo being younger than Rossi is naturally going to show more energy both on and off the track, backed up by the high spirits he must be in having won the 2011 World Champion title, will result in Lorenzo dominating Rossi in the championship according
to Agostini.
“I think Rossi can win one or two races per year, but no domination like before: his rivals are younger and have improved,” said Agostini.
When Agostini was asked to name a favourite for the 2013 MotoGP champion, he favoured the reigning MotoGP champion saying, “Lorenzo will win the championship – with Valentino in the scrap.”
With a little over 4 months to go in the first 2013 MotoGP round scheduled to be held in Qatar, both Rossi and Lorenzo will have a better chance of having a successful run if they were to come to terms with each other.
