Giacomo Agostini says Marc Marquez must not over-do things in debut MotoGP season – MotoGP news
Giacomo Agostini, giving a piece of advice to Marc Marquez, reigning Moto2 world champion, tips him to avoid over-temptation.
“To move up from Moto2's 140 horse power to MotoGP’s 240 is no stroll in the park. He must not overdo things,” said Agostini while talking to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Marquez will have to give proper time following his move up to MotoGP. Although he has a great career riding in the Moto2 class, but Marquez will have to realise that there is a considerable difference between Moto2 and MotoGP.
Considering Marquez’s statistics over 5 years, consistent improvement has been evident in the Spaniard’s riding career. Marquez made his debut in 125cc class in 2008. He finished the season with a 13th place in the final rundown with 63 championship points.
In 2009, Marquez improved his performance finishing 8th on riders’ standings and finally in the 2010 125cc class season, Marquez clinched the world champion title.
Marquez moved to Moto2 class in 2011. With 7 season victories and 251 championship points, he finished the season 2nd on riders’ standings. 2012 brought another championship title for Marquez. He finished the season with 9 victories and 324 championship
points claiming his second championship title.
Now that Marquez has moved to MotoGP, he needs to give a replica of his 125cc and Moto2 careers. In light of his motorcycling career, Agostini said Marquez has to give himself enough time to completely settle down in the new format.
Agostini says that patience will be the key to success for the 19-year-old Spaniard. Expecting something great in a very short time is a big mistake and Agostini has asked Marquez not to make such a mistake.
He said, “Marquez impresses everyone. I hope he is guided in a good way, because to think you can win everything immediately is difficult: fruit needs time to get ripe. He'll do a great season, but he can't expect to have everything this year already.”
With a little over 4 months to go until the start of 2013 MotoGP season, Marquez is bound to be looking forward to his debut MotoGP season but he must not over-do things, suggests Agostini.
