Giana Roberge replaces Kristin Armstrong as director of Peanut Butter & Co.
Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY12 entered the women’s cycling peloton at the beginning of 2010 under the direction of Kristin Armstrong. The seven-time time-trial champion took her second World Champion title in 2009 on top of three American
national titles, one Pan-American title, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medal in time-trialing, and decided to retire from competition at age 36 into a team management role. However, she has now left that position and Giana Roberge has become the new director.
“We don't like to call it retirement, after her World Championship win in 2009, her focus changed to family, only eight weeks after her win she became pregnant,” said team co-owner Nicola Cranmer. “Like everything she was on the fast track to motherhood.”
The 2012 London Olympics has called Armstrong out of retirement and back onto the road racing team with the ultimate goal of defending her title in two years time.
“Kristin will focus on the individual time trial at the London Olympics,” said Cranmer. “She will race domestically for the most part but will compete in some later season European races with the US National Team.”
On Wednesday, Roberge was announced as the new director for the women’s team. She has worked with Cranmer before as the director of PROMAN Hit Squad, the precursor for PB & Co., and later guided the Saturn women’s team to two number-one
spots in the UCI women’s team classification.
"I first worked with Giana five years ago. She constantly impressed me with her professionalism, knowledge and strong advocacy for women’s cycling," Cranmer said. "She was not only a great mentor for the riders, but for me as well. She was more than willing
to share her experience from her time with the fabled Saturn program."
