The Italian FA President has stated his doubts over Italy’s chances in the Championships after the training regiment for the national side was not accepted.
Cesare Prandelli and the Italian FA asked permission from the Serie A authorities to set aside some dates for the training sessions for the players to be taken to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983.
The Lega authorities turned down the call by the national authorities, explaining that they had asked for permission too late for consideration. Abete has been critical
of the football league’s decision, voicing his opinions on various fronts.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, he spoke about the request and felt that it was not an impossible task to fulfil, and commented:
“Ours was simply a request to grant more attention to the national team and to a Coach whose ethical image is otherwise appreciated. I cannot nor do I want to turn these
into obligations, which they are not.”
Abete was representing the Italian FA at the UEFA Executive meeting which had been gathered to discuss and improve upon the relations between the associations and their
clubs
The rationale given by the Serie A authorities was lambasted by the chief executive who felt that it was within the realms of possibilities and the FA had not decided over
it overnight, and remarked:
“It is ridiculous to say that the Football Association has asked for the availability of [players for] these sessions only on the Friday morning. Did they not think we were
interested in this before? We talked to the council on March 7, we spoke about it for months, but we only formalised the request after the end of Champions League and Europa League commitments.”
The Italian head coach, Prandelli, is going through a striking selection headache. The headache arises from the fact that his preferred strike partnership of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Cassano-c6302
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giuseppe-Rossi-c15027 are out recovering from their respective surgeries.
The decision by the Serie A authorities not to grant him his request would have irked him a great deal, given that he is yet to decide on his strike force for the Euro 2012.
The requested training sessions would have given him a better idea about the work ethic of his players.
