Giancarlo Fisichella thinks Fernando Alonso is ahead of his rivals – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella has said that Fernando Alonso of Ferrari is ahead of all his rivals in the 2012 F1 season so far.
Fisichella is not the first person who has considered Alonso the best driver in the season until now as before him there are many others who have said the same. The list mainly includes the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes and ex-F1
driver, Martin Brundle.
The Italian racing driver had been the teammate of the Spaniard at Renault. Furthermore, they have worked together at the Scarlet team in which the three-time race winner is the test driver.
In addition, he admired the performance of the two-time world champion who has performed tremendously well in the first eleven grands prix and has superbly restricted the probable damage for his team which projected to struggle in the first few races.
Besides, he said that Alonso has successfully demonstrated his abilities and skills even with an uncompetitive car.
“He knows when to attack and when to look after the tyres. He is always on the limit of what he can and should be,” said Fisichella.
At present, the 31-year old is leading the drivers’ championship with 164 points. Additionally, he has a very strong lead over his main competitors, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing. Therefore, his ex-teammate said that he is ahead of
other contenders in the field while he said that he has achieved great results with his excellent performance in the first half of the season.
“At the moment he is quite a step ahead of his rivals. He is always achieving the most of what is possible and I don’t think there is anyone who can do a better job than him,” he added.
Over and above, he said that Alonso has a sound affiliation with his team and is trying hard to maintain his lead in the championship battle ahead.
“He is very close to the team,” said the Italian. “He is frequently at Maranello, with the mechanics, playing football with them, going out to dinner with them, cycling with them.
