Giancarlo Stanton gets loose object removed from knee as he is out 4-6 weeks - MLB Update
As the Miami Marlins’ right-fielder Giancarlo Stanton undergoes arthroscopic surgery on Sunday, it has been reported that he will not play for the next four to six weeks in the season.
According to initial reports, the process of the surgery went well and the object, which triggered the issue in the first place, has been withdrawn now.
For Stanton, the injury has occurred at the worst time. He was all-set to make his first All-Star appearance in Kansas City on July 10 and was extremely excited to unleash his power in the Home Run Derby. Just when ASG neared and his enthusiasm culminated,
his sore knee was reported, leading to an announcement of his replacement.
Not just for Stanton, it was disappointing for the club as well. In-fact, it deprived the Marlins as a club of witnessing one of their players, representing them in the National League All-Star roster. As the only player who had become a cause of attention
of thousands of the Marlins’ fans on the day, was removed from the line-up.
Although the Marlins’ management tried to get one of their players replaced in place of Stanton. However, this was turned down and instead the Washington Nationals’ outfielder Bryce Harper earned the call.
Marlins’ president, David Samson is unhappy on getting none of their players on the All-Star roster, despite making calls for it and bringing the matter into the notice of the authorities.
He put forward Justin Ruggiano as one of the Marlins who could be taken.
"I think it's unfortunate. I think that every team should be represented on the line in an All-Star Game," said David Samson. "For me, it would have would been natural to have [Justin] Ruggiano in who has absolutely played as well as anyone since he was
called up."
Irrespective of an appearance in the All-Star game, injury by Stanton will further weaken an already floundering offence of the Marlins. Since he has been reported out for at-least four weeks, until then a genuine slugger will not be in the line-up.
Therefore, in second half of the season, hitters who have been unable to make their mark so far will be looking to fill the void created by the absence of Stanton.
