Giancarlo Stanton on disabled list and will remain out 4-6 weeks - MLB Update
The Miami Marlins do not kick off the second half on a positive note as their out-fielder Giancarlo Stanton has officially been put on the disabled list. He will not return until the completion of four to six weeks. In the meantime, to off-set the damage, Emilio
Bonifacio has been activated.
Stanton had suffered a knee injury just before the beginning of the All-Star festivities. The fact he went through surgery, he was announced out from the Home Run Derby and from the All-Star game.
For a 22-year-old player with his first All-Star call in life, losing the opportunity was painful. He was extremely disappointed to see the replacements being declared in his place when it was reported that the injury is severe.
Meanwhile, his injury was equally terrifying for the Marlins. With the offence already floundering in the season, losing the slugger like Stanton, who has single-handedly kept their production afloat in the season, was a great setback.
Therefore, manager Ozzie Guillen was looking forward to his return, immediately after the ASG break.
However, as it pans out, he has been sent on a lengthy outage from the season now.
Meanwhile, centre-fielder Bonifacio has come to replace him. The fact he has been below par in the first half, one can go slow in being optimistic about him in the second half. Although with regard to on-base-percentage he has been impressive but he has
yet to become a prolific run producer for the Marlins.
Therefore, once Bonifacio comes back, he will be aware of what the Marlins are looking for from him.
Since Bonifacio is coming after a span of two months, the rest that he has taken now will render him in a position to come out better in the second half. Furthermore, the thumb injury that he suffered earlier is not troubling him now. It is assumed that
he will be able to put up the kind of performances he is capable of.
Meanwhile, Stanton will be going through a rigorous rehab process. He will be making sure that the knee injury is eliminated once and for all and comes back in the season at the earliest.
