Giancarlo Stanton out of Miami Marlins’ line-up as left knee injury re-ignites - MLB Update
Just 40 minutes before the start of the game against Philadelphia Phillies, news emerged from the Miami Marlins’ dugout that Giancarlo Stanton will not be playing.
An injury which kept him out of most part of Spring Training has begun to bother him again and thus his misery continued even in the regular season.
As per the manager Ozzie Guillen, inflammation is not at the same place where it was before. This fans fears of a new type of injury hampering his quest for the play.
"It's something different than what he had in the spring," manager Guillen said.
Nothing has been reported officially, however sources suggest that possibility of his being part of the team on Wednesday is still there.
Both Logan Morrison and Giancarlo Stanton battled injuries during Spring Training and as they eventually had managed hurried comebacks, their vulnerability was never ruled out.
So concerned was the management that Morrison was purposely held back in the game owing to the fears that under extreme temperature, he will be prone to severe injury in left-field.
Fortunately for the Marlins, the replacement for Stanton at right-field namely Austin Kearns did not let the Marlins feel any immediate effect of his absence on the side.
As he went on to hit homer in the game, Marlins will be happy that their back up is equally reliable.
On a broader perspective, if his injury prolongs, it will be a big blow to Miami.
Apart from their series opening game against Phillies, their offence has betrayed them in a big way. In first few games they hardly managed more than a handful of hits.
Stanton with a career batting average of .260 and 56 home-runs is going to leave the Marlins’ offence weakened further. From Spring Training to the regular season games, only their pitchers have contributed the most in their wins.
For their second game on Wednesday, the Manager will be looking forward to complete fitness of all the players.
Since Marlins' offence sparkled for the first time in the season against the Phillies, the manager will hope that players like Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez keep lifting the offence the way they did in the game and thus negate an impact of any potential
injury coming to any of their hitters.
