Friday is going to be the day which will determine where Giancarlo Stanton stands and whether he will be able to appear in the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game on July 10 at Kansas City. Though he swung his bat on Thursday and tried to prove that he can
play, warm-ups before start of the series opening against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday are going to be extremely important.
Missing out on the All-Star Game will be the last thing he will want. It is his first call in his career for such a high-profile game and becoming part of it will be a special moment of his life.
By the time news came that Stanton has been included for Home Run Derby, he was jubilant. For a 22-year-old, it was like dream come true scenario. As excitements grew, a sore knee issue struck him all of a sudden, endangering his presence in the festivities
on July 10.
Adding insult to injury, MRI report was even more discouraging, revealing loose bodies in his knees.
It was disheartening for him. A kind of mountain of wishes he built up in his heart on being seen playing on such a glorious day began to shatter.
Right now, he is trying his best to get rid of his sore knee issues at the earliest. He is being examined on a daily basis. Similarly, management is paying close attention, hoping to get him back before the ASG break.
"You'd love to be in the All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby, so it's not going to be hard to get a replacement," Stanton said. "But in terms of me, I want to go. I'm not really thinking about a replacement."
If for the next couple of days he cannot see his knee recovering fully, replacements will be announced. Not only Stanton will be disappointed, fans will also miss the chance to watch a player who has been so immaculate on the plate this year.
Huge home-runs he struck and how he sent the most difficult throws for massive hits in the season, one will like to witness their replication in the ASG.
As Stanton goes through warm-ups on Friday, one will hope that he will be able to convince management of his fitness.
