Giant Ryan, the Breeders’ Cup Sprint hopeful works on a wets fast Churchill Downs track
Shivananda Parbhoo’s 5-year-old Giant Ryan is on a hot winning streak and has gone on to win all his last 6 starts, including the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Handicap and the Grade 1 Vosburgh.
Trained by Bisnath Parboo Giant Ryan, is pointed to the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint held at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011, for his next start breezed at rainy Churchill Downs on 19 October.
On a wet-fast track at Churchill Downs under some light rain Giant Ryan breezed as easy three furlongs in 39 1/5 seconds.
The son of Freud, out of Kheyrah by Dayjur, Giant Ryan under his exercise trainer Sabastian Garcia ran for the first eighth of a mile as the clockers got Giant Ryan in 12 3/5 seconds and then he galloped out half a mile in 53 3/5 seconds.
Under the watchful eye of owner Shivananda Parbhoo Giant Ryan turned in a fine work, and he told exercise rider Sabastian Garcia to go really slow on a very fast track, this exercise was meant to get the sprinter used to the track.
Giant Ryan is scheduled for another session before the big race, Shivananda is marking next week workout crucial because he will stretch out a bit and go half mile and gallop out a strong five eighths.
The New York bred has been in excellent spirits, and he coming off a win when he ran his winning streak to six straight with a half length score over Force Freeze in the Grade 1, $350,000 Vosburgh Invitational .
The race was run over at Belmont Park’s dirt course on 1 October, 2011, as Giant Ryan ceased the opportunity and spurted past his opponents to win the 6 furlong dash in 1 minute and 9.10 seconds, as Caixa Eletronica finished behind Force Freeze in third.
Prior to the Grade 1 Vosburgh win, Giant Ryan bagged the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Handicap when he rallied to a neck victory over Irrefutable in the Grade 2, $350,000 Smile Sprint Handicap.
The New York bred has gone on to win eight time out of his 14 starts overall.
