Giant fly like bug?

Question

A few years ago when i was like 10, I saw this giant bug that looked exactly like a fly on my mom's car, it looked exactly like a fly but it had green eyes and this curled up green tube that extended/uncurled every few seconds... the wings were bigger and it was like 2 inches long and 2 inches wide, until now no one knows what it is that I saw lol because it didn't look like a cicada, it had a tubey thingy that curled up?? so what was it?? anyone pleasee, it's been like 7 years lol

It sounds like a Dragonfly to me!  We have tons of them where I live.  They are very pretty and eat other bugs like mosquitoes, so be nice to them.
