Giant huge large red ant!?!?

Question

Today, i was coming back from practice, I walked out of the car and there was this huge, red, ant looking thing. It traveled by itself, no pack anywhere near by. It was a little over and inch long and maybe 3/4th a centimeter wide. It was completly red except for one black stripe on the bottom body part of the ant. Before i could take a picture of it, it walked into the grass.

PLEASE what is it? Can someone give me info or a link to info on this ant. I have 3 peach trees in my back yard, and if it is poisonous, i dont want to be eating those peachs.

thats what a cow killer looks like but i doubt thats what you saw. it was probably a regular old queen red ant..

Is Virginia tech very smart?  Its not related to wasps, it is a wasp. It belongs to the family Hymenoptera which includes ants and wasps.  It is not very aggressive toward people but will sting.  You do not need to worry about your peaches as it is hunting burrows of bees and wasps on the ground.

its called a velvet ant and is very poisonous. it can kill a cow.

google is the velvet ant poisonous and click on venomous cratures of gorgia and then click on wasps. u will find what u need. it will be ok to eat those peaches

well if you're from austrailia it's a bulldog ant can kill a person in 10 minutes

It is a "cow killer" or velvet ant and it is actually a wasp.  It has a stinger and will use it.
