Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul comes in the limelight after victory against Dallas Cowboys – NFL News
Although the rest of the New York Giants players did their well to ensure that they dominate Dallas Cowboys in the week-14 game, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP) is specially highlighted everywhere after he blocked Dan Bailey’s
kick that, if successfully passed the uprights, would have forced the game to overtime.
Giants owner John Mara appreciated JPP for his heroics and thanked him saying the player got the season back for the Giants, who ended their four-game losing streak on Sunday.
“It's just good when the first pick in the draft (in 2010) comes through like that,” Mara said.
JPP is playing his second professional season. This season, he has played 13 games and started nine of them. He has 61 tackles and 12.5 sacks to his credit.
The game was unfortunate for Bailey, who repeated the same debacle for second consecutive week. When the Cowboys played Arizona Cardinals in the week 13, Bailey scored a field goal, but his coach called a miscalculated time-out
and the move was nullified. When he kicked again, he missed.
This week, when Giants were leading 37-34, Bailey got a chance to kick the ball and get three points, which would have forced the game to overtime. He successfully completed the task, but Giants’ coach Tom Coughlin called a time-out.
When Bailey tried again, JPP blocked his kick and gave the Giants a much-needed victory.
JPP thinks that the timeout-call really helped him blocking the kick. He said on Monday that the timeout allowed him to devise a strategy and allowed him to target the opponent’s centre instead the guard.
Meanwhile, coach Coughlin has also appreciated JPP and said that he is a great athlete. After the game, the coach said that the player has got the ability to make match-winning plays.
“He was flying around, playing hard, sometimes not getting a whole lot done, but because he’s persistent, athletic and really enjoys the game, he just keeps swinging. He hangs in there and he keeps going and keeps going and keeps
going. He’s got that ability, as you saw on the blocked field goal, because of his athleticism and skill that he can make the play when your team most needs it,” the coach said.
