Giants' former star Michael Strahan returns at camp to boost players – NFL News
New York Giants’ players, especially the defensive line, received a much-needed morale booster when their former star Michael Strahan paid an unexpected visit to the camp on Wednesday and chatted with them.
Giants are having a tough time from last three weeks. Entering their ninth game of the season, they were 6-2. After playing 11 games this season, they now have a record of 6-5. They are on a three-game losing streak, which has
allowed Dallas Cowboys to gain a complete one-game lead over them in the National Football Conference East division ranking. Cowboys and Giants are competing with each other for the top spot in the division that will ensure entry into the playoffs.
Giants have five games left in the season and they should win all of them. Their first hurdle and undoubtedly the toughest of the season is their encounter with undefeated Green Bay Packers this Sunday. This is the perfect time
for someone like Strahan to pay a visit to the camp and encourage players.
Although he did not address the players as any leader does to his followers, his words were more than enough to get the message across and extract the intended results.
“It really wasn't like he gave us some secret. He wasn't upset with us or anything like that. [But] he could tell me how to iron clothes and I will probably iron it to how he says it. The guy demands respect and he has always been
like that, and you give it to him,” Giants’ defensive end Dave Tollefson said about Strahan.
Mathias Kiwanuka who was tutored by Strahan was not in the room when his mentor was addressing the players. However, he heard every single word Strahan said from the other room and was pleased to have him around.
"He is a guy who comes in and has credibility because he not only played in the league for a long time and all the records he broke, but he did it here,” Mathias said.
In the presence of coaching staff, the former star did not have any need to give tips and tell the players the tools of the trades. He was there to talk to the players, tell them that they can still win it and motivate them for
the next games. And that’s exactly what he did.
“He just told us to keep fighting,” defensive tackle Rocky Bernard said.
