Giants Defeat Cowboys after Romo Breaks Collarbone (Part 2)
This is a continuation of Part 1 of the New York Giants versus the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7 of the NFL Regular Season.
With the Giants at 1st and 8 at DAL 8, Manning passed short to the left, out of shotgun formation, to Nicks for an 8 yard touchdown. Tynes point after was good, with Dallas still ahead, 20-14.
With 3:16 left in the first half at 2nd and 2 at DAL 14, Manning passed to Steve Smith out of shotgun formation, for a 14 yard touchdown. Tynes’ extra point was good, putting the Cowboys ahead, 20-21.
With 36 seconds left in the second quarter, the Giants’ Tynes kicked a good field goal on 4th and 4 at the DAL 25, which was nullified by an offensive holding penalty for 10 yards. So Tynes kicked again, this time from the DAL 35, which was once
again good, putting the Giants even further ahead, 20-24.
At the end of the first half, the score was 20-24, with the Giants now ahead.
With 13:17 left in the third, the Giants had possession of the ball again. After two first downs, the Giants were on 2nd and 8 at DAL 28. In shotgun formation, Manning passed 25 yards to Mario Manningham for a TD. Tynes’ extra point was good.
The Giants were now even further ahead, 20-31.
Continuing their scoring frenzy, New York was at 1st and 10 at DAL 30 when Brandon Jacobs rushed for 30 yards for a TD followed by Tynes good extra point. The Giants now had an 18 point lead, 20-38.
At the end of the third, the New York Giants were ahead, 20-38.
With 3:22 left in the fourth, on 1st and 10 at the NYG 15, Jon Kitna passed to Dez Bryant for a 15 yard TD out of shotgun formation. After a failed attempt at a two-point conversion, which was nullified by a defensive holding penalty, Dallas tried
again to make a successful conversion with a pass from Kitna to Jason Witten. The Cowboys were still behind, 28-38.
With 3:17 left in the fourth, New York’s Tynes kicked a field goal on 4th and 1 at the DAL 8, for 26 yards, putting them even further ahead, 28-41.
After three 1st downs from the DAL 27 to the NYG 15, Kitna made a 15 yard pass to Bryant on 4th and 1, followed by an extra point by Buehler, which was good. The score was now 35-41, still to the Giants.
After 41 drives by the Giants and 35 by the Cowboys, the Giants emerged victorious, pushing New York up to 5-2 and Texas down to 1-5.
This was the Giants’ fourth straight win, but an even more shocking number is five. The Giants have injured five quarterbacks this season.
The Super Bowl is set to take place in Texas in February, but it looks very unlikely that Dallas will be attending as one of the competing teams.
Even though the Cowboys lost, home fans still applauded loudly after the screens showed clips of the Texas Rangers, who are bound for the World Series, and then cut to Nolan Ryan, president and part-owner of the Rangers.
The Rangers knocked the New York Yankees out of the series last week. The Giants are taking at least a small measure of vengeance back to New York.
