Giants QB Eli Manning disappointed on losing playoff opportunity, feels positive about finishing strong
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has expressed disappointment on losing a chance to qualify for the playoffs, but at the same time the player has hoped for bright prospects in the next season after finishing this year on a positive note by defeating
the Philadelphia Eagles comprehensively.
The Giants totally outclassed the Eagles, who scored only one touchdown in the game. On the other hand, the Giants maintained grip over the game for almost the entire four quarters.
Giants scored three touchdowns in the first quarter, two in the second and one in the fourth quarter. Manning, too, was pretty incredible. He scored five touchdowns in the game. However, if such a performance had come a few games earlier, the Giants might
have qualified for the postseason.
Manning feels that finishing the season after winning nine out of 16 games is not good enough to secure a playoff berth, not this season at least. According to the details present on the team’s website, Manning said when asked if his amazing performance
against the Eagles proved any consolation:
“No, you always want to play well. There’s no enjoyment in not going to the playoffs, but we knew we had a chance; we knew we had a shot, and in this game of football, a lot of times that’s all you want. You want an opportunity, you want a shot.”
The Giants have admitted that they made mistakes early in the season that cost them a few games. They gave away their lead in National Football Conference (NFC) East, allowing Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles to come close to them in the division and
eventually sideline them.
Giants also lost a couple of close-margin games and Manning believes that they should have taken advantage of the opportunities presented to them. The Giants quarterback said:
“We had better opportunities earlier on in the season that we didn’t take advantage of, so we knew we had to win this game to give ourselves any opportunity of going to the playoffs.”
Nevertheless, Manning thinks that finishing the season on a strong note will help them move forward. He said:
“We obviously played really well today so it’s good to know we can still play at a high level.”
