Giant’s Rookie Chad Jones in Car Accident

The 22 Year old Chad Jones’s career may already be in jeopardy, just two weeks after he was picked up by the Giants. He was the overall 76th pick and signed a 4 year contract with the New York Giants, becoming a professional football player for 2.615 million dollars, his 4 year contract also including eight hundred thousand dollars as a signing bonus. Two weeks after his inception into the world of professional football, he got into an early morning car accident in New Orleans, which left Chad seriously injured, and his promising future is suddenly uncertain.

Two other unknown passengers were also involved in this horrible car accident. It seems that Chad lost control of his black Sports Utility Vehicle at a quarter past 7, early in the morning on a six-lane thoroughfare and crashed into a street pole at the west end of the city. Chad was trapped in his 2010 Range Rover and rescue workers had to cut him out of the vehicle. He was rushed to the Louisiana State University’s trauma center immediately where he received emergency treatment. The other two passengers were treated on the spot for their minor injuries and did not need to be taken to the hospital.

Chad’s left leg received multiple fractures and he had to be taken into surgery to restore blood flow to his leg. The surgery lasted for several hours and reports surfaced that Chad had shattered his Tibia and Fibula and sustained damage to nerves and arteries in his left leg.

His agent, Rocky Arceneaux, was optimistic about his treatment saying that he believed the surgery “went smoothly.” Arceneaux couldn’t comment already about the prospects of his long term recovery adding that it would still be a while before such judgments could be made. “The rehab is going to take a while,” he said. Responding to questions about the restoration of blood flow in Chad’s left leg. His agent took on a reassuring tone when explaining that the surgery would not have ended until proper blood flow was restored.

An official Statement from Arceneaux about the cause of the accident is anticipated shortly. Many feel that the toxicology report might shed some light on the matter. The police have charged Jones with “careless operation of a vehicle.” Depending on the result of the toxicology report, the charges against him might come to include “Driving under the Influence.”

Jones was at a highpoint in his life, just 22 and in his prime. He was on the verge of beginning a multimillion dollar NFL career after signing a four year contract with the Giants. This was his time to enjoy six weeks of off season after the end of last week’s minicamp before he would have to set off for Albany’s grueling sun for two practices a day. So Jones clearly had reasons to celebrate. He was physically fit young had a new found fortune at his disposal, and in his surge of celebration he might just have made the biggest mistake of his life.

It’s really unfortunate that his celebrations were cut short. Even though early reports hint towards a successful surgery, the road to recovery is always long and arduous. That is if he can manage a full recovery at all. His first challenge would be to regain complete functionality of his very expensive legs. First he must regain the ability to function on a daily basis, and then he must accomplish the harder goal, which is to be training a severely injured leg to bear the punishments of professional football.

Chad Jones needs our prayers and the strength of his friends and family. His parents, who were on vacation in Dallas are reported to have arrived at his bedside. Chad Jones is a uniquely talented athlete; he played baseball and football for Louisiana State and was selected in the 13 round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Houston Astros. However Chad was more interested in an NFL career and after 3 seasons for LSU, Chad gave everything up for professional football once he got drafted by the New York Giants.
