Giants on a roll as they secure second victory over Cubs
The San Francisco Giants are silencing all their critics with winning. After defeating the Chicago Cubs in the first game of the regular series season, the Giants managed to do it again with a 3-0 victory over Chicago.
The reigning World Series champions were being heavily criticized time and again for not performing up to standards and slumping.
Looks like the Giants are ready to defend their championship title and give it all they have.
The game was played at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and almost forty thousand fans were in attendance which filled up almost ninety-six percent of the venue. D J Reyburn was the umpire at home plate along with Gerry Davis, Sam Holbrook, and, Todd Tichenor
on first, second, and third base, respectively.
Ryan Vogelsong was the star of the show, as he pitched six scoreless innings. In his first complete game since the season began he allowed seven hits and struck out seven as well. He played a vital part in two double plays and left right Cubs runners on.
"I didn't want our guys standing out there too long," he said. "I was just trying to get us back in the dugout as quick as I could".
The Giants worked hard for their victory, and it was truly well deserved given how they played against the weather, which was rowdy and stormy. The match was shortened due to rain.
"The toughest part of the night was when they were in the batter's box, it was blowing right in their eyes", Giants manager, Bruce Bochy said. "You've got to play, though. You've got to keep grinding, which they did".
Even in his last start against the Colorado Rockies, Vogelsong was flawless. He pitched for over six and one third innings but allowed a single hit and only one walk while dropping his ERA to 2.36.
The first run of the game came in the very first inning, as Buster Posey singled to the left side of the field and Freddy Sanchez scored. Posey then went on to second base, and moved to the third one on a throwing error by Koyie Hill, the catcher.
The next two runs were in the third inning. The first one came as Cody Ross reached the first base safely after Hill’s throwing error. Vogelsong scored off it and moved Aaron Rowand to third base, as Posey moved himself to the second.
The second run of the third inning came when Rowand scored and effectively moved Ross to the second base.
It was blatantly obvious throughout the game that the Giants were taking advantage of the Cubs below average defence, especially in the third inning.
