Giants’ wide receiver Victor Cruz escapes shooting accident – NFL News
New York Giants’ wide receiver Victor Cruz who turned 25 on November 11, celebrated his birthday party in a local club with a few of his teammates on Tuesday, and it was a memorable one!
The memories, however, might not be remembered in good terms as they bring a thought of a dead man, sight of a stampede and sounds of gun shots.
Cruz was mixed in the crowd celebrating with his teammates when an unidentified gunman opened fire, killing a 44-year-old man and injuring two others. The man who was killed was initially injured, but succumbed to the wounds before
reaching the hospital. The police have confirmed that one of the two people who sustained injuries was woman.
As per the statement of New York Giants spokesperson, Cruz was neither involved nor hurt during the incident.
According to Cruz, there was a fight going on in the club and he and the rest of the teammates got out of the place as soon as they got the chance.
“I don’t remember how many [gunshots I heard] to be honest with you,” Cruz said in an interview on Tuesday. “There were enough.”
“There was a melee that was going on,” Cruz added. “So we kind of just waited. We sat under the table and waited for the melee to calm down before we left. Then we got out of there as soon as we could. We didn’t know if we were going to get caught in a stampede.”
The players that reportedly accompanied him to the club were Hakeem Nicks, Aaron Ross, Antrel Rolle and Chris Canty. However, a few of them have denied that they were in the club. Besides, the National Football League stars, the
athletes from NBA were also present in the club when the incident took place. All of them stayed safe.
Cruz admitted that he got scared after the gunshots and said that he felt sorry for the victims. He was signed by New York Giants in the year 2010. He has played nine games this season managing four touchdowns while receiving 40
passes and 672 yards for his team, which is leading the National Football League East division.
Giants will take on Philadelphia Eagles in the week 11 game of the National Football League current season.
