Cricket South Africa has announced that the board has decided to terminate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s opener Herschelle Gibbs’ national contract by mutual consent.
The announcement came in the wake of the release of a book written by Gibbs which raised a hue and cry amongst the Proteas cricket circuit and the media. It contained controversial revelations about former and current players of the South African squad.
The book titled “To the Point” seemed like a desperate effort on part of the star player whose chapters were not focusing on the game but on the more intricate details of explicit escapades of him and the team.
CSA had announced early last month that they are seeking legal advice on the damaging allegations regarding the autobiography which also detailed about the “clique” formed between some players.
“It has been decided that this is the best way forward for both parties,” Gerald Majola, the CEO of the South African Cricket Board commented in a statement.
The statement read that the CSA wished the player well as he will always be considered as the pride of the nation.
Majola further said, “Herschelle represented our country for fourteen years with distinction and I don’t think any cricket lover will ever forget the magnificent innings he played in the famous 438 game against Australia.”
He concluded that due to the confidential nature of the agreement, its contents would not be disclosed to the media and the two parties will not comment further on this matter and neither will any other concerned party.
Gibbs gave a detailed account of the “sexual escapades” of the team while on tour in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969 to allow the formation of selected few players’ cliques which was headed by Captain
Graeme Smith who controlled the young players.
He also accused former team mate Daryll Cullinan to introduce him and the team to drugs. He however, defended his stance on writing the book as “an open and honest account” of his life.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 has an impressive record of playing 90 Tests in his international career and averages 6,167 runs at 41.95 whereas he has played 248 limited overs matches averaging 8,094 runs at 36.13.
The 36-year-old right-handed batsman last appeared in a One Day international against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in Ahmedabad this year in February failing to contribute anything to the team’s performance.
