Gibraltar v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Norway-c2974 – European Championship Division One- T20 Group A - Match Recap
Norway picked up their first win of the tournament as they beat Gibraltar by 8 wickets, in a match of the European Championship Division One T20 Group A, played at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Guernsey-c40999 Rovers Athletic Club Ground, Port Soif, on July 19, 2011.
Chasing a minor total of 78, Norway collected an easy win with more than 60 balls to spare.
The match started as Gibraltar skipper, Iain Latin, won the toss and elected to bat first.
However, nothing went as planned as opener Ross Harkins fell in the first over of the match, cleaned up by Waheed Amir, without making any contribution.
This put the batting lineup under pressure from the start, which allowed the bowlers to restrict the scoring.
With the first seven overs only producing a little over 20 runs, Gibraltar continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.
The second fell on the score of 23, when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieron-J-Ferrary-c71445 presented a straight forward, caught and bowled chance to Shahbaz Butt. His 7 runs came of 20 deliveries.
However, it was just the start of the collapse for the batting side. The worst was to follow, as an error in judgment led to a run-out of the no. 3 player Mark Bacarese.
Butt, then claimed his second and third wickets of the day, first removing the opponents skipper for one, while also taking Kayron Stagno for 6. Both fell in a similar fashion, where wicket-keeper, Moosa Rashid, showed some good piece of stumping to remove
the two.
When innings’ top scorer, Ian Farell, fell for 15, with him went the hopes of the Gibraltar team, which found themselves 6 down with just 53 on the board.
Another two fell before the 20th over, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibraltar-c2906 ended at 77 for the loss of 8 wickets.
Coming out to chase the target, the Norway openers never looked in any discomfort as they calmly dispatched the lack luster bowling of their opponents all around the park.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zaheer-Ashiq-c98447 blazed through his knock, making a brisk 35 of just 20 balls, which included five fours and 2 sixes.
He fell on the score of 45 on the last ball of the fifth over, when Ross Harkins took his scalp.
There was another wicket that fell in the next over of Ali http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saleem-c88077, Leg Before Wicket (LBW) to Andrwe Reyes for 5.
However, the result was hardly in any doubt as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Shahbaz-Butt-c77314 guided their side to victory. The duo remained unbeaten on 18 and 12 respectively.
As for the Gibraltar bowlers, they failed to impress much, like their batsmen, with Harkins and Reyes grabbing a wicket a piece.
This was Norway’s first win of the competition and they will go up against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Croatia-c2879 next, at the same ground, on July 20, 2011.
