Gibson anticipates tough tour of England for West Indies – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 squad, is of the view that his team’s upcoming tour of England is likely to propose challenges for them, both in terms of adapting to conditions, and playing against the top Test team.
“… Going to England, for us especially, coming out of a very, very hot Dominica, going up there in early May is always a challenge. We're playing against the No. 1 team in the world, so of course we're going to expect it to be tough.”
The Caribbean Kings will be playing a series of 2 warm-up matches before the tour gets underway – the first is scheduled to take place against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 on May 10.
In addition to the drastic difference in their http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test rankings (the English occupy the top spot while the West Indies are currently at number 7); the tourists will be coming into the tour after a series against the Aussies in grueling conditions at home.
Gibson, however, was dismissive of the cold climate, saying there was no point in dwelling on it (despite the fact that the Windies’ last series in England was also played in May last year, and culminated in two Test defeats), and also went on to express
confidence in his team’s ability to tackle their formidable opponents.
“… the team is shaping up quite nicely, heading in the right direction. Winning isn't far away and the young guys are developing … I think this young team will equip itself very well and I think that our guys will rise to the challenge like we did in parts
in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 series.”
The Windies recent outing against the Australians saw them staging a surprising comeback, despite the fact that they had been considered underdogs. After ending the limited-overs leg of the tour on two draws, the hosts went on to put up a fight during the
Test series, which, however, they eventually lost, 2-0.
Despite the lack of victories, the Windies’ performance was hailed as a hopeful sign of things to come, and the young side will be looking to improve as they travel to England for a tour which comprises a 3-match Test series, which will be followed by 3
ODIs, and a single T20.
