Gibson encourages West Indies to learn from England – Cricket News Update
Following two consecutive Test defeats at the hands of England, West Indies head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 has urged his young side to learn from the performances of their opponents, who he describes as a “well-oiled machine”.
“… England are a very well-oiled machine,” said Gibson, who served as England's fast bowling coach prior to taking up the West Indies job.
“They all know their individual roles. They've always been a very tight-knit bunch … They know what they can expect from the guy next to them and they go out and deliver.”
“… look at the amount of good balls we have to bowl to get their wickets compared to how they get our wickets and it's there for everybody to see.”
The Poms are currently at number one on the International Cricket Council’s Test team rankings, and boast a formidable bowling attack which has been the undoing of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in the ongoing Wisden Trophy.
The first Test, played at Lord’s from May 17 to 21, saw the tourists conceding a 5-wicket defeat to the home team, after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465 tore through their batting line-up, claiming 11 for 165. The second and most recent Test, played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham
from May 25 to 28, also spelled a similar fate for Darren Sammy’s men.
After the team posted a respectable score of 370, courtesy two centuries, by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 (117) and Sammy (106), the Windies bowlers found themselves unequal to the challenge of defending the total. Andrew Strauss’ ton (141) followed by Kevin Pietersen’s
half-century (80) got England up to a comfortable 428, and in their second innings, the Windies could only set up a paltry target of 108.
In addition to the insipid batting line-up, the bowlers were erratic and ineffective at restricting the opponents - Samuels was the only one who managed to claim a wicket (Strauss) during England’s second innings, and the team's position was further weakened
by the amount of extra runs conceded. The match culminated in another defeat for the tourists, this time by 9 wickets.
“It's what I tell our young guys: 'this what you have to learn. When you are standing in the field, this is part of your learning, watching these guys and learning from them',” Gibson said.
While http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, leading 2-0, have managed to secure the series win, the tourists have a chance to end on a positive note by making an impact in the 3rd and final Test, scheduled to begin on June 7 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
