Gibson looking forward to Test series challenge - Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358, believes the Twenty20 and One Day International series victories over New Zealand are things of the past and the side should now focus on the forthcoming Test series, which is a completely different ball game.
"Every new format requires new thinking, so we will get together in Antigua next week and plan for how we will go about winning the Test series as well," Said Gibson.
After winning the T20 series 2-0, Windies wrapped up the five-match ODI series 4-1, with a 20-run victory over Black Caps in St. Kitts on Monday.
However, Gibson is expecting a tough challenge from the touring side, especially after the return of their two main batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 and Brandon McCullum.
"On a tour if you are the opposition and you lost a T20 Series and an ODI Series you would be down on yourself, but they (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754) have some players coming in and they will expect a boost," Gibson pointed out.
Whilst Kiwis will be relishing the return of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390 will be returning to the home side, and Gibson is expecting his inclusion to be a huge boost for the batting line up.
"We will also have some players coming into our team, the likes of Shiv Chanderpaul, and we all know what he is capable of,” Said Gibson.
Chanderpaul, a veteran of 142 Test matches and with over ten thousand runs to his credit, is the mainstay of the Caribbean batting line up. He had an outstanding series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in April this year, where he was the highest run scorer with 346 runs,
that included 1 century and 3 fifties.
Apart from their away 1-0 victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 last year, West Indies haven’t won a Test series against a formidable Test opponent during the last three years.
The last time they tasted a victory over a regular Test playing nation was in 2009 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, when they won the first Test match at Sabina Park by a margin of 23 runs and went on to clinch the series 1-0.
The two-match Test series gets under way at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on July 25, followed by the second match at Kingston, Jamaica, on August 2.
