Gibson steers clear of Gayle-WICB controversy Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 has distanced himself from the spat between Chris Gayle and the West Inides Cricket Board, saying he will only concern himself with the case if he gets a call regarding Gayle’s status in the team.
“The whole http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 saga has gone on far too long for my liking. I've kinda kept out of it for the last eight months or so and I intend to do so until someone calls me and tells that Chris is available,” he said.
“If Chris is available, then of course he is someone who can add value to our team but I will wait to hear from the board what the situation is,” he added.
The Jamaican batsman became embroiled in a disagreement with the WICB last year when he gave a controversial interview to KLAS Sports (a Jamaican radio station) in which he criticised the board for not following up on the injury he had sustained during
the 2011 World Cup. He also went on to target head coach Gibson, whom he claimed was a “user”, and blamed him for mentally tormenting teammate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RR-Sarwan-c2371 as well as other players during the World Cup.
His move to miss the home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 (for which he had been dropped from the playing XI for the Twenty20 and the first two ODIs) and join the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League added fuel to the fire,
and since then the player has not played for the national side, instead involving himself with tournaments such as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League (during which he played for the Barisal Burners), and the IPL.
Gayle has been an instrumental part of the Royal Challengers in the current 5th edition of the IPL, and has registered scores such as 87, 86, and 71. He recently requested the WICB to clarify his status in the team in order to negotiate with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843,
with whom he had agreed to play. The request was taken negatively by the board, and Gayle has recently turned down the deal with Somerset and expressed his intent to devote himself to West Indian cricket.
