Gideon Louw impresses in Men’s 100m freestyle heats: Day four – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Gideon Louw of Auburn Aquatics impressed in the preliminary rounds of Men’s 100m freestyle on last day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Sunday, May 13.
The 24-year-old Louw met expectations of his supporters by snaring the top qualification spot of double-lap freestyle event.
With his stupendous efforts and unmatchable pace, he succeeded in edging out his strongest challenger over the finishing blockade as he touched the wall with the timing of 49.44 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort was trailed by Matthew Targett of Australia, who stayed 0.06 seconds apart and hit the wall for second best position by submitting a time of 49.50 seconds.
Targett was chased by Ricky Berens of Trojan Swim Club, who stayed 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and qualified into the playoff as third best finisher by reporting a time of 49.56 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Scot Robison of New South-NC, who stayed 0.05 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with an effort of 49.61 seconds.
Similarly, Robison was chased by Davis Tarwater of SwimMAC Carolina, who suffered a deficit of 0.40 seconds from his foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 50.01 seconds for fifth position.
The 28-year-old Tarwater was trailed by Anthony Ervin of California Aquatics, who stayed marginally behind him and qualified into the playoff as sixth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 50.08 seconds.
Ervin was followed by Marcelo Chierighini of California Aquatics, who stayed just 0.01 seconds slower from him and tapped the wall as seventh fastest swimmer by producing a time of 50.09 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured Tyler McGill of Una NYAC-MR, who remained 0.17 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 50.26 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, the arena appreciated remarkable sprints of all participants, who tried hard to overpower each other for the fastest qualification spot of the event.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all listed events whereas these swimmers will race each other in the playoff of the 100m discipline.
