Gideon Markus, Agripinna Prima earn semi-final spot in Vietnam International Challenge 2012
The Men’s doubles team of Indonesia Gideon Markus-Agripinna Prima led their country to semi-finals by overpowering Pranav Chopra-Akshay Dewalkar from India in quarter-final match of Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge on March 30, 2012.
The duo, seeded second in the tournament, had to sweat hard for 47 minutes to seal the victory with a favourable margin of 21-14, 13-21 and 21-18 after three games.
The doubles experts Gideon-Agripinna showed their intentions in very first set of the match when they convincingly stamped their rivals.
Their coordination was superb while establishing the lead in first half of opening game and they pushed their rivals on back foot with unbeatable moves.
After the interval, the Indonesians were fully charged as they increase the speed of the game. Their rivals could not match their pace and trailed behind them till the score board flashed final score of 21-14 at the end of first game.
However, the Indians did not lose their nerves and they pocketed the best out of the second set. The male doubles experts Pranav and Akshay did not spare any loop-hole and blew away their competitors with an intensive backlash.
The troubled pair Gideon-Agripinna tried hard to step forward by scoring some quick points in second half of the set but that was not enough to come back from eight-point deficit and they went down with decisive 13-21 score on the board.
This 1-1 match score situation brought life back into the match and both teams entered the court with high morale which they earned from first two games.
Both competitors took the game to next level by exhibiting the prime skills and their electrifying performance was applauded by the spectators. They kept on chasing each other on the score board throughout the decider.
The twosome of Gideon and Agripinna finally ended this race by scoring three consecutive points and stole the limelight with tight yet decisive margin of 21-18.
This 2-1 victory ensured their presence in the semi-finals of the event where they will be up against another Indonesian pair Praveen Jordan-Didit Juang.
The semi-final round of Vietnam International Challenge will be played on March 31, 2012.
