Giedrius Titenis clinches Men’s 200m breast-stroke race: Day five – 2011 FINA World Championships
Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania produced a wonderful splash and snagged the Men’s 200m breast-stroke preliminary heat on day five of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Wednesday, July 27.
In the following heat, Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania secured the race with an impressive time of 2 minutes and 10.33 seconds. Previously, Titenis grabbed the bronze medal in the corresponding meet at the 2009 edition of the championships, in Rome.
Meanwhile, Christian Lehn Vom of Germany earned second place honours with a time of 2 minutes and 10.67 seconds. Eric Shanteau of United States finished third in a time of 2 minutes and 10.77 seconds.
Daniel Gyurta of Hungary finished fourth in 2 minutes and 10.78 seconds, whereas, Michael Jamieson of Great Britain settled fifth in a time of 2 minutes and 11.06 seconds. The sixth place went to Kosuke Kitajima of Japan in 2 minutes and 11.17 seconds.
Michael Brown of Canada finished seventh on the podium in 2 minutes and 11.51 seconds. Andrew Willis of Great Britain secured eighth place honours in 2 minutes and 11.59 seconds, while Melquiades Alvarez of Spain earned ninth spot in a time of 2 minutes
and 11.86 seconds. The tenth place went to Glenn Snyders of New Zealand in 2 minutes and 12.38 seconds.
Earlier, Netherlands’ Femke Heemskerk snatched the Women’s 100m freestyle preliminary heat with a winning time of 53.75 seconds. Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen finished second in 53.88 seconds, while Ranomi Kromowid Jojo was placed third in a time of 54.10 seconds.
Moreover, Scott Clary of United States won the Men’s 200m back-stroke prelims with a fascinating time of 1 minute and 56.32 seconds. Hungary’s Peter Bernek was placed second in 1 minute and 57.23 seconds, whereas, Russia’s Stanislav Donets finished third
in 1 minute and 57.30 seconds.
United States’ Rebecca Soni snared the Women’s 200m breast-stroke prelims with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 23.30 seconds. Meanwhile, Denmark’s Rikke Pedersen hit the wall in 2 minutes and 25.86 seconds to earn second spot on the podium and Russia’s
Yuliya Efimova rounded out the top three in 2 minutes and 25.98 seconds.
