  1. The fact that they're thoughtless and usually 60% raffia grass to boot.

Generally, the composition of a gift basket is inexcusably uncreative. Rather than tie a half-dozen related things together, they'll pick one thing and multiply it out -- they make a hot chocolate or marmalade sampler, for example, and include every flavour and variety of the item when really, the most anyone likes of anything is one or two takes on it. The other 23423 marmalades sit around for months until you throw them away. You might get little breads or a coffee mug in those baskets, but that's it.

Or you get a basket of bath stuff, when soap scents are such a personal choice and unless it's a luxury brand or a brand you know they use, you're going to get it wrong.

So consumables make bad baskets, and are overplayed regardless. And then you're stuck with the basket it all came in -- my mom's cellar has a entire shelving unit to hold the baskets she's gotten over the years.

A good baby shower basket, however, might include bottles and bottle liners, a big pile of over-sized receiving blankets, toys, bath stuff like soap and a hooded terry robe (bonus if it has little ears on top), some story books, wipes, and a gift card for more supplies. Package it all in a stylish diaper bag or one of those tubs that changes colour when the water is a good temperature.

  2. i got one for Easter 24 yrs ago.  I liked it.

I did not want any more; too much

junk after the candy is removed.

That is a man's approach. My girl likes to

    save the baskets.
