Gift Ideas for a 6 year old girl's birthday?

Question

My half-sister (in law) is turning 6 in a couple of weeks, and I want to get her something that is girly and for kids yet makes her feel grown up because she is always wanting to be like us "big kids".

I know she likes the typical stuff like barbies but I really want to get her something she will absolutly LOVE.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

(I'm also open to taking her somewhere)

Does she like pictures? I bought my niece a Barbie kids digital camera for like $15-$20 at best buy, then made her a scrapbook with her name on it to keep the pics in :) PS I also put a few pics of me, her uncle and her cousin to start the scrapbook off right and to sign it for her birthday.

if she is responsible i would get her a piece of jewelry she could keep forever like maybe a locket or a pendent of some sort if you think she will lose it within a week then maybe depending what shes into a cute bathing suit with pool toys or a make your own necklace or lip gloss kit or maybe just some fun bath bubbles and toys and if you want to take her some where tell her you want to have a girls day out and take her to get her nails done with you and out to a nice lunch (i know at some hotels you can have a tea party if you call ahead of time and request one which could be fun)

My niece is six and she always appreciates "hands on" type of gifts, like make your own this or make your own that.  I got her a make your own lip gloss kit last year and she adored it.

Those kind of gifts always make them feel more mature because they're making something themselves which is very independent and they are using something the "big kids" use.

If she likes being a big girl, then something like a manicure set for kids or lip glosses would be great.  I think they make a Hannah Montanna make up set.  Maybe you could get her a purse and put some things in it like lip gloss, a necklace or bracelt, earrings, nail file and polish.  Girls that age also love Webkinz.  She is luck to have someone to want to please her so much - good job to you!
